He earned a Laurea degree in Physics from the University of Study of Rome "La Sapienza", in 2003, discussing a thesis concerning the application of airborne lidar techniques for the observation of atmospheric aerosol in the frame of Midlatitude ENVISAT validation campaign.

In March 2006 he earned a PhD from the University of Basilicata discussing a thesis concerning the use of lidar and microwave application to the study of water vapour an clouds.

From 2006 to 2007 he was a research assistant at the CNR-IMAA.

Since 2008 he is a junior scientist at the CNR-IMAA.

His activity is devoted to the application of the lidar, radar and microwave techniques and in their integration to improve the profiling of atmospheric parameters, such as temperature, water vapour and cloud liquid water. He is working on the aerosol-clouds interactions.

He is also involved in the development of multiwavelength lidar systems for the investigation of atmospheric aerosol.

In 2006, he was in charge for a Short Term Scientific Mission) relative to the: “Intercomparisons and improvements in microwave profiling during LAUNCH measurement campaign”, granted by EU COST Action 720 and carried out at the Lindenberg Observatory of the Deutscher Wetterdienst  (DWD), in Germany.

He has participated in several international experiments, such as EAQUATE, LAUNCH-2005, COPS-2007 and LUAMI where he was the PI of the CNR-IMAA microwave profiler.

He is the contact person for the CNR-IMAA in the cooperation with the Cloudnet (Development of a European pilot network of stations for observing cloud profiles) community where the CNR-IMAA is involved in.

At present, he is the PI of the 36 GHz meteorological radar and microwave profiler operating at CNR-IMAA.

He is also the team leader of the Topic “Quantifying the Value of Complementary Observations” in the frame of the research programme GATNDOR (GRUAN Analysis Team for Network Design and Operations Research), related to GRUAN (GCOS Upper-Air Reference Network) and he has been nominated chair of the program. He is also part of GCOS AOPC Working Group on Atmospheric Reference Observations (WG-ARO) that coordinates GRUAN activities.

He has also actively participated to the writing of several funded proposal for EU FP7 research calls.

He is task leader in the ACTRIS EU FP7 research project and Lead Scientist in ITARS FP7 MarieCurie project.

He is also reviewer of national and international journals like “Journal of Atmospheric and Oceanic technology”, “Atmospheric Measurement Techniques”, “Journal of Applied Remote Sensing” and “Il Nuovo

Cimento”.
